CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, is the world’s largest professional body of management accountants. Management accountants use their business knowledge and financial expertise to guide business strategies. Business strategy refers to the set of plans that a business adopts in order to achieve its aims and objectives. Business strategies are a means of gaining competitive advantage in the market place.

Management accountants weigh-up the likely benefits and problems to the business of taking certain actions. For example, Barclays has announced that it will close four of its branches and move staff and banking services to nearby Asda stores.
