National Skills Academy For Power 18 Image 4The National Skills Academy for Power (the Skills Academy) works in collaboration with leading employers, including Balfour Beatty, E.ON (UK), National Grid and Scottish Power, to develop the quality and consistency of training in the power sector.

Through Think Power, an initiative of the Skills Academy, key UK power companies and training providers have joined together to champion the benefits of working in the power sector, which offers: job security, a variety of work and great training and development opportunities. Think Power aims to encourage more people into the power sector, which in the coming years will need to recruit 50,000 technicians, craftspeople and engineers for key projects.

The Skills Academy works in association with Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the gas, power, waste management and water industries.

It advertises opportunities and recruits apprentices and graduates on behalf of employers within the wider energy and utility industries. The website contains handy information about careers in the sector, along with hints and tips on how to submit a great application form or CV.

The careers that are available in the energy and utilities industries are fundamental to the way we live our lives. Ensuring that the lights stay on, our streets are clean, we have running water in our homes and that we are kept warm, are all elements of the work that happens every day.

Comprehensive recruitment and training programmes are available from entry level apprenticeships, to higher apprenticeships, scholarships, internships and graduates.

It offers an online vacancy service whereby members of the Skills Academy, including Balfour Beatty, E.ON (UK), National Grid and Scottish Power, can post their vacancies and individuals can search and apply for jobs in the power industry.

The website explains how you can get into power, what routes to take to enter and how you can progress your career. It also offers case studies from existing power apprentices.

Typical roles include: Engineers, Technicians, Electrical Control and Instrumentation, Overhead Lines person, Wind Turbine Technicians, Design and Quality Engineers and Managers, Site Supervisors, Control Systems and Protection Engineers.
