Renewable energy is becoming an increasingly talked about issue, and with the recent bout of pollutants and worrying reports about the environment, it’s a topic that’s on most people’s lips.
The government has given eight major renewable energy projects the go-ahead, supporting 8,500 jobs. These projects include offshore wind farms and conversions of coal-powered plants to run on biomass (biological material derived from living, or recently living, organisms) instead. These projects are the first awarded under the governments energy market reforms.
It’s likely that the projects would help to power up to three million homes with an expected £12b in private investment. (BBC News, 23rd April 2014)
