How better workplace ventilation equals more productivity

While it is natural to measure the productivity of an employee through the work they do, do you take into consideration their circumstances? Because something as basic as air ventilation can cause an ocean of problems involving:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Sinus Congestion
  • Throat And Eye Irritations

All these things come into play when your employee is supposed to be productive. And as a responsible employer, you need to protect the health of your employees by providing sufficient ventilation.

What does ventilation do exactly? For the most part, it keeps any bad smells from lingering in the air and it removes excessive moisture. More specifically, it regulates fresh air from the outside to the inside, maintaining circulation and productive minds. Everyone inside the building is going to benefit.

According to Mitton Mechanical Building Services this means that poor ventilation is an issue and responsibility you need to address immediately. Because not only will it slow down productivity, it literally puts the health of everyone in the building at risk.

Now you have to ask yourself, are you willing to risk the possibility of losing your business?

If the answer is no, then consider the following affordable tips for keeping the air healthy and productive.

Tip No. 1: Remove Obstructions

Within a busy office setting, it is easy to block air vents with things like tables, cabinets, and even books. But limited space will never be a good reason for cutting off fresh air. So, make sure all the obstructive objects are removed and the air vents can flow freely. Because in addition to blocking fresh air, condensation can turn into water damage, and water damage turns into mold growth. You see the bad chain of events that follow blocking an air vent?

Tip No. 2: Address Personal Habits

Obviously, the quality of the air in the building won’t be affected by one bad sandwich. But add a few fruits and some other things, and eventually, the pollutants add up. In light of employees doing their part in keeping the air clean, implement the following:

  • Lunch and break areas have to remain clean at all times
  • Don’t make use of air fresheners, given they only hide the smell while other pollutants gather with the existing smell
  • Regularly maintain plants inside the office and check the water tray for leaks

Tip No. 3: Allow Circulation

If at all possible, keep the doors and windows open. This will allow a free-flowing circulation of fresh air.

Tip No. 4: Extractor Fans

A good way to quickly rid an area of a bad smell or unhealthy air is by using extractor fans, which are typically installed in bathrooms and kitchen areas.

Tip No. 5: Keep A Clean Office

This tip speaks for itself, and a clean office promotes clean air.

Tip No. 6: Locate Possible Chemical Pollutants

You might not know it, but there can be chemical pollutants in the office. They can come in the form of building materials, office equipment, and even the furniture.

Tip No. 7: Monthly Assessments

Do yourself a favor and participate in monthly assessments of the above-mentioned tips. And make them part of the building policy.

Improve productivity and promote health by making sure there’s always enough fresh air to go around.
