The values driven culture has a wider effect on how Portakabin Group operates. It forms the keystone of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach. CSR is about businesses having a positive effect on their stakeholders. These include owners, employees and customers, the communities in which the business works and the wider environment. Portakabin Group is serious about safeguarding its people and the environment in which we all live and work.
It is also keen to play an active role in its local communities. It aims to work in partnership with suppliers and to treat its customers fairly.
It attains its business aims and objectives in a caring and responsible manner by recognising the economic, social and environmental impacts of what it does. Its CSR Vision is part of its central values. It is stated as:
“To be recognised as an organisation that is transparent and ethical in all our dealings, that cares about the environment, and that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of our people and the communities in which we operate.”
Portakabin Group takes an active approach to CSR, with a wide range of CSR activities taking place across the group. These are managed and driven by a group of specially chosen people called ‘champions’. These are drawn from various business areas and supported by a steering committee. They include:
- Working in partnership with local communities, e.g. local schools
- Developing relationships with employees, customers and suppliers
- Encouraging environmental protection and aiming for more sustainability
- Volunteering policy allows a working day to be spent helping with external education projects.
This approach helps employees to feel more engaged and responsible. It also helps to develop a positive relationship for Portakabin Group in the communities where it works, contributing toward sustainability and service excellence.
