It is not easy to stay in shape, particularly when you have a lot going on at work and at home. In fact, you may deliberately avoid exercising, simply because you don’t think you have the time to get everything done.

Getting everything you want accomplished in the course of a day is hard. Think about your job for a moment, though. Are you active and moving during working hours, or are you, like the majority of Americans, sitting sedentary while you perform your daily tasks? If the latter is true, you are probably not as healthy as you should be as a result.

How can you change that? The first thing to keep in mind is that you can do your job every day and still find time to work out. These tips will help you get started on the road to success.

1. Use Your Commute Time

Many people dread getting up in the morning and following the same boring routine until they get to work. Why not change it up a little bit and make it more exciting? One way you can incorporate fitness into your day is by making your commute a little more active.

If your job is located relatively close to your house, you can bike or run to the office. If it isn’t, you can exercise on the train or bus. There is so much you can do if you only look for a way, so get creative and see what happens.

If you absolutely must drive, you still have some options. Park away from the entrance to your work so that you have to walk to get to the door. Take an extra lap around the building before you head up to your desk. Once you start looking for ways to get active, you will see them pop up everywhere!

2. Avoid The Elevator

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on fancy equipment or gym memberships to get fit. Simply take the stairs a few times per day instead of getting on the elevator. You can even make a few extra trips up and down so that you get in some extra exercise while you are at the office.

Make use of your lunch break as well. Pack some food, eat it at your desk, and use your remaining time to do some extra walking or go up and down the stairs a couple of times.

3. Form A Support Group

Surely there are other people at your office that want to get into shape as well. Form a support group so that those of you that are interested can encourage one another. Perhaps you all decide to walk together at lunch a few times per week, or maybe you meet after hours and play tennis or go for a jog. It doesn’t really matter what you do as long as you get yourself moving. And, you are much more likely to be successful when you have to “answer” someone else about your activity level.

4. Get The Right Tools

Set your office up for fitness success. Even if you belong to a gym, your schedule may prevent you from getting there as often as you would like. Instead, purchase a few tools to keep in your office space so you can get in a workout whenever you would like.

For example, a stepping machine and an exercise ball are both handy and won’t take up a lot of room. Free weights can also help you to stay toned.

If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, or you don’t want to break out the exercise equipment at work, simply make use of an empty room when you have the time. Just make sure that what you are doing doesn’t break any rules at work.

5. Better Choices

We all make all sorts of bad choices at work, whether it’s eating too many biscuits with our tea or having too many drinks at the Christmas party. If you smoke you should try to give that up as it can hamper your wellbeing no end.

6. Utilize A Punishment System

If you can’t get anyone at work on board, set up a punishment system for yourself. Want to check the messages on your phone? Do ten push-ups first.
