It hasn’t been long since the organic term appealed on images of health food stores, departmental stores, and farmers markets where off branded fruits and vegetables are available. In the way to scale up more organic food items and been provided to customers, many farmers depict that USDA that is the federal agency decides and regulates which food items will be known as organic and those items has achieved the desired growth that is required as per the quality and animal welfare standards. Fed up with the same, farmers all around are trying to proffer a new product with a new label whereas USDA highlights the standards what they really consider to be organic. The project was been known as Real Organic Project and it covers food industry experts, activists, academics and others who got over 30 farms signed up for the certification. Even, label printing is been seen playing a pivotal role in the same.
It has been agreed that a new label has to be started. The Real Organic project certification along with other specifications will ensure the growers plant and soil system health along with as per the animal welfare standards. Even a national pilot program is been going to be devised in the coming year aiming to leave its marks and labels on the products within a year. It was strictly been mentioned by the USDA that organic cattle require room to graze, chickens will require access to outdoors and there is an increase in the number of certified organic egg farms that are keeping hens in barns made up with elevated porches of concrete that meet with the program’s standards as needed.
Though, traditional organic farming have documented advantages to biodiversity, soil health and a large array of other environmental metrics but it is not also impossible to see the growing demand and need of hydroponic growing. It lets in producing higher yields as compared to soil based agriculture and require minimal water supply to grow healthy produce. There is absolutely nothing inapt with hydroponically grown food, it is just not organic. For many people, the aim of widening the organic community is to make available organic food at affordable prices for consumers. Every people has the right to get healthy and organic food but not at the price of losing organic integrity. As of now, consumers look for organic produce in market and everywhere and as compared to previous year, the market for organic food is been increased by 6%. The people’s demand for more organic food is been on the rise and the major concern of Real Organic Project is it doesn’t matter what size you are into, through traditional organic growing and label printing, profits could be achieved at a much larger scale. The concerns with the labels is not what it will say about the product but what it is going to imply about the other items around. USDA supports opt-in food labelling for ranchers and farmers who wish to differentiate their varieties of products. When the label will highlight organic, USDA will be going to check in the term and review will be conducted by the National Organic Program for compliance.
