Signs it’s time to expand your office space

The quality of the work environment directly impacts employee productivity. It affects focus, organization, and habits. Maybe your current office is slowly becoming overcrowded, or your current office space no longer meets the demands of your flourishing business. Either way, a new space is an exciting thing, once you get past the move itself, that is.

Some People are Afraid of Moving, Don’t Be Those People

“Fear is the oldest and the strongest emotion of mankind. The oldest and strongest fear is fear of the unknown.” These words were written by H.P. Lovecraft a century ago, and they still hold to this day.

However, there is no need to be afraid of moving to a new office. You are doing that because you need that kind of change. You need it because your business is probably growing. And it’s easy. Just find a good place for your business and move. It’s even easier if you live in a big city like London. In that case, you won’t have to break a sweat. Just call one of the numerous specialized companies that could help you with transport, packing, unpacking, etc.

Your Work Depends on The Quality of The Workspace

A clever business owner knows when it’s the prime time to start searching for a place with more breathing room. This is a necessity. A cramped office can lower the productivity of your team and practically destroy the morale of your entire team.

How do You Know That Your Company Needs a New Office Space?

There are sure signs that it’s the prime time to move or expand your current office. Just look around your current office space and you could find several serious problems.

1. Problems With Parking

This can become a serious problem for your employees. If you are starting to hear complaints about how your employees are having a hard time finding available space in the parking lot, it may be a good sign that you need to start looking for a new office space. You simply can’t solve this problem in any other way.

2. Your Current Office is Overcrowded

Your employees need space. Larger office space will improve employees’ pride and morale. It allows you to eliminate all the redundancies in your operations, it makes it easier to consolidate office supplies and storage, provides more space for additional equipment and (maybe) a larger staff area. A good company also needs some extra space to incorporate a game room into its office design. Your employees need some space to relax, have fun, and just enjoy their workspace. A happy employee is a motivated employee.

On top of all, you need an office space that is large enough for all your employees. The general rule of thumb is to allow anywhere between 125 and 225 usable square feet of space per person.

3. Your Employees Are Quitting

Ok, while this could be a sign of additional problems, it may also be a wake-up call telling you that you need to do something about your office. You either expand your office or move to another location.

4. Your Business Has Grown

More employees, more equipment, and other resources are necessary for the future of your business. If the size of your office is slowing you down, just move your office to a better location that won’t limit the potential growth of your business.

5. Your Office Looks Dated

An ugly or outdated office could hold your company back. You have to think about the future of your company and this future depends on your clients. You will have to host meetings and conferences with prospective clients and you don’t want to scare them away with old desks, ancient equipment, or ugly looking working space.

The appearance of your office tells a lot about your company.

6. You Can Save Some Money

The most obvious reason to consider a move to a new location is money. More money you save means higher salaries for your employees, and the higher the salaries are the more motivated they become. Again, motivation plays a huge part in the quality of your products or services and the speed your employees get the job done.

This is why you need to keep your eye on rent prices on the locations you think are good enough for your business.
